Many apartment owners in Russia cannot boast of a large bathroom area, which is why repairs here must meet several parameters at the same time: comfort, convenience and beauty. As for the financial side of the issue, it all depends on us: the option in which we will deal with construction work and the purchase of building materials on our own can greatly reduce costs without affecting the quality of repairs at all.
Plastic materials are now widely used in everyday life and have been actively used in the process of repair and decoration for more than 10 years. Today, tiles have been replaced by convenient and practical panels, which are much more convenient to install and use than ceramic materials. To work with them, only elementary knowledge of the basics of repair is required, which will undoubtedly affect the costs.
If you plan to place a washing machine in the bathroom, then consider in advance where to put it. It makes sense to choose narrow models to save space.
Bathroom renovations start from the floor. Basically, tiles are used as flooring in the bathroom. This material levels the surface, is easy to use and looks beautiful. However, in order to save money, tiles can be easily replaced with high-quality linoleum, it is easy to lay on any surface without visible irregularities – this will perfectly refresh the look in the bathroom and reduce costs.
Having completed the work with the floors, we will gradually move on to the wall covering: as a rule, a mounting bracket is provided with plastic panels, into which the first panel is inserted, the next ones go into one another, creating the impression of a single material, leaving almost no seams. The structure is fixed with a construction stapler and staples.
The use of plastic panels is also allowed when decorating the ceiling. However, here it is required to take into account the location of the lamp. With strong heating of the light bulb, the panel can be deformed, so a snug fit of the lighting fixture to the plastic is highly undesirable. If there is not enough money for additional installation of panels, water-based paint is quite suitable for repairing the ceiling in the bathroom. It is worth considering that it is desirable to apply the paint on a dry, even surface, without stains, streaks, or traces of old plaster.
It is not recommended to use foam products (tiles, moldings, etc.).). Despite a slight cost savings, this material does not perform well in rooms with high humidity: it may soon develop a fungus that can spread to the nearest surface and adjacent materials.
