Lost pets happen quite often. However, if this happened to you, you definitely shouldn’t panic, it would be better to immediately start actively searching for your pet.
So what should you do:
Make a daily walk around the place where your animal was lost (optimally in the morning and in the evening, because cats can sleep during the day, for example, in the basement). In time, such a round should ideally take at least an hour, then your dog will be more likely to follow the trail and find you or come to your house. Do not be lazy and do not hesitate to ask passers-by, telling in detail about your dog or cat. It is desirable to give a very clear description, understandable to any person, and not just a dog breeder. If your animal has any characteristic signs, they should definitely be mentioned. If you have a photo of your pet, then show it to passers-by. Visual perception is always better than your subjective characterization of the animal.
Pay special attention to dog breeders, they will usually be able to tell much more than the average passer-by.
Advertise on the Internet using the most visited resources. The ad must contain a clear description of the animal, age, specific place where it was lost, a photo (if available), your contact information.
Call the stray animal control service, describe your pet to them. If they gave a negative answer, it would be better to go and make sure for yourself that your animal was not accidentally caught.
Advertise on local TV and in the local newspaper (usually not expensive).
Post ads on poles, bus stops, near entrances. This method has always been considered very effective and efficient. Your announcement should be as clear as possible and contain a photograph, description, age, characteristic signs and your contact details. Announcements should be updated every 3-4 days so that people know that information about the missing animal is still relevant.
Do not despair if after a week or a month your pet has not been found. Very often, pets return home after 2-3 months. Therefore, if you cannot imagine life without your animal, do not stop searching and it will definitely be found.
And do not forget, you can significantly speed up the search process if you attach or write your contacts on the collar of a dog or cat in advance.
